Protect Union City NJ City Workers from COVID-19

Protect Union City NJ City Workers from COVID-19
The Issue
The City of Union City has not protected their city workers nor has it acted so to contain the risk of exposure and outbreak.
Mayor/Senator Brian P. Stack has not considered city workers in public works facilities including Parks & Recreation and Parking Authority. These employees continue to be exposed to risks of contracting COVID-19 due to the lack of consideration from Mayor Brian P. Stack. These employees are in contact with the public on a daily basis without any proper personal protective equipment (PPE) placing themselves, and more importantly, children, families, and elders at risk. Union City guidelines state that "restrictions and closures are placed as precautionary measure amid concerns of the Coronavirus." Yet, public works facilities continue to be open and run as usual besides the rapid spreading pandemic that is occurring.
Mayor Brian P. Stack continues to state they are being precautions and limiting contact. Public works facilities throughout the city have a great number of employees working in the buildings. Some employees have been exposed to COVID-19, yet city officials say that exposed employees will continue to work because "no symptoms have been shown." According to continuous medical studies, COVID-19 does not always appear with symptoms and infected people are spreading the virus without notice.
Mayor, Commissioners, and State Officials need to rapidly enact the ability for ALL city employees to work from home and implement social distancing in accordance to both Governor Murphy and The White House Guidelines' recommendations.
Workers should not be working and Parking Authority has even extended expired or set to expire parking permits for 30 days.
