THE ISSUE
The leak of the June 2026 series Pure Mathematics 1 (9709/12) paper on April 29, 2026, is a catastrophic blow to students who have spent years preparing for this moment. Finding a complete, solved version of the exam circulating on social media hours before entering the hall is not just discouraging—it is heartbreaking. For those of us who have stayed up late, solved countless past papers, and maintained our integrity, seeing our future success hinged on a compromised paper is a nightmare. It creates an atmosphere of immense anxiety and hopelessness, knowing that our hard-earned results might be overshadowed by a security failure we did not cause.
We, the undersigned students, parents, and concerned educators, raise our serious concerns regarding the repeated and systemic compromises in the security of Cambridge International Examinations (CAIE) within Zone 4. These are not mere "accidents" but indicators of a profound institutional failure that threatens the academic futures of thousands of hardworking students.
In 2024, the shock of discovering that the 9709/12 Mathematics paper had been leaked was just the beginning. By 2025, the problem had escalated with further confirmed breaches in both Mathematics and Computer Science exams. CAIE's continued inability to safeguard the physical and digital distribution chain of examination papers has created an unequal playing field that devalues genuine effort.
KEY CONCERNS
The ripple effects of these breaches are devastating and unfair:
- Financial Betrayal: Families in Pakistan sacrifice immense portions of their income to pay some of the highest examination fees in the region. It is unacceptable to charge premium prices for a compromised product with non-existent security.
- Systemic Negligence: Beyond the major publicized scandals, numerous "minor" or partial leaks (e.g., specific questions circulating hours before the exam on social media) occur and are consistently ignored. By refusing to acknowledge these, CAIE gaslights honest students.
- Devastating Remedial Process: Honest students are unfairly forced to choose between stressful remedial retakes or accepting "assessed marks" that do not reflect their true potential, disrupting crucial university admission timelines.
OUR DEMANDS (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
We urge the British Council Pakistan and Cambridge International Examinations to take decisive and transparent action:
- Transparent Acknowledgment: CAIE must officially recognize all reported breaches, including social media leaks, and publish transparent, detailed investigation reports on security failures.
- Threshold Protection: Immediately implement statistical mechanisms to ensure grade thresholds (boundaries) are not artificially inflated by the performance of candidates who had prior access to leaked materials.
- Fair Remedies: Offer students equitable remedial options that safeguard university admissions, such as assessed marks based strictly on uncompromised papers or free-of-cost retakes.
- Security Overhaul: Complete an immediate transition to robust digital safeguards, such as encrypted digital papers released minutes before the exam, to eliminate the vulnerabilities of the current physical system.
FINAL STATEMENT
The time is now for CAIE to demonstrate accountability and integrity. We and our families endure sleepless nights to achieve excellence; we demand that CAIE matches that dedication with basic, reliable security.
Failure to act decisively will further erode trust in the qualification. Every student has the right to a fair examination system. Sign this petition to hold CAIE accountable and defend our futures.
