Petition Urging International Agencies to Uphold Democratic Principles in Pakistan

The Issue

Introduction:

We, the undersigned citizens of Pakistan, are deeply concerned about the integrity of our democratic process and the lack of public support for the current government due to allegations of electoral fraud, hereby petition international agencies to uphold democratic principles and refrain from entering into agreements or loans extending to governments lacking public mandate.

Background:

The recent elections in Pakistan have been marred by accusations of electoral rigging and manipulation, resulting in a potential government that lacks legitimacy and the support of the people. In such circumstances, it is imperative that international agencies respect the democratic rights of Pakistanis and refrain from engaging with governments that do not have the genuine mandate of the public.

Call to Action:

In light of the foregoing, we, the undersigned citizens of Pakistan, demand the following actions:

  1. Respect for Democratic Principles: We call upon international agencies, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and other bilateral and multilateral partners, to respect the democratic principles enshrined in our constitution and refrain from entering into agreements or extending loans to governments lacking public mandate.
  2. Press for Genuine Democratic Governance: We urge international agencies to use their influence to press for the formation of a government in Pakistan that has the genuine mandate and support of the people, as determined through free, fair, and transparent elections.
  3. Conditional Engagement: We advocate for international agencies to condition their engagement and financial assistance on the establishment of a government that is democratically elected and enjoys the trust and support of Pakistanis.
  4. Public Oversight and Review: We emphasize that any agreements, MOUs, or loans entered into by the current government without the genuine mandate of the people will not be owned or be the responsibility of the public. Furthermore, these agreements will be subject to the review of the democratically elected government whenever it takes office. The incoming government reserves the right to cancel, term void ab initio, change, or amend these agreements in the best interest of the citizens of Pakistan.

Conclusion:

As citizens of Pakistan, we believe that the international community has a crucial role to play in upholding democratic principles and promoting genuine democratic governance in our country. We urge international agencies to stand with the Pakistani people in their pursuit of democracy, accountability, and good governance.
