The Issue

We are calling on The Uxbridge Cosmos to retract its article regarding Quaker Village Public School and issue a public apology to the family involved and to all families in our community who care for children with disabilities, neurodivergence, mental health concerns, or complex support needs.

While public discussion about school safety and resources is important, it must never come at the expense of a vulnerable child’s dignity, privacy, or sense of belonging. The article and the newspaper’s response failed to recognize the harm caused by indirectly identifying a minor in a small community and by framing a child with support needs in a way that deepens stigma and isolation.

Families raising children with disabilities already face judgment, misunderstanding, and barriers to inclusion. This reporting has shaken the sense of safety and belonging many families deserve to feel in our community.

We ask The Cosmos to take responsibility by retracting the article, issuing a sincere public apology, and committing to more respectful and informed reporting when children, disability, mental health, and school inclusion are involved.
