Petition to Stop the Closure of Lagos Night Lounge
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the Bedford Borough Council’s decision to close Lagos Night Lounge, a vital and beloved venue that has been a part of our community for the past three years. This club has not only become a safe and inclusive space for people of all backgrounds, but it has also brought much-needed entertainment to Bedford, a town that has been lacking a safe and welcoming club for far too long.
Why Lagos Night Lounge is Essential:
 1. A Safe and Inclusive Venue for All

Lagos Night Lounge is more than just a nightclub—it’s a community hub that provides a space for people to relax, enjoy good music, and connect with others. While it has especially supported the Black community, the club is welcoming to all, offering an environment where everyone, regardless of background, can have a good time. The club has never had major incidents like fights or reports of spiking, unlike other venues in the town centre. It’s one of the safest places in Bedford, and its closure would be a great loss to the community.
2. Entertainment and Social Well-being

For years, Lagos Night Lounge has filled a significant gap in Bedford’s nightlife scene, providing entertainment, a sense of belonging, and an opportunity to enjoy socializing in a safe environment. It has become a space for everyone to unwind, celebrate, and create memories. Closing the lounge would leave a void in the town’s social landscape and diminish opportunities for residents to gather in a secure, fun environment. It’s more than just a nightclub—it’s a cultural hub that offers African and Caribbean cuisine at its restaurant, enriching the local food scene and bringing diversity to the town. The venue not only brings people together to have fun, but it also helps to showcase and celebrate African and Caribbean culture.
3. The Impact on Employment and Local Economy
Lagos Night Lounge supports around 20-30 employees, and the closure would directly impact their livelihoods. These workers rely on the club for their income, and losing their jobs would be a hardship for them and their families. In addition, the club contributes to the local economy by attracting visitors to Bedford, benefiting local businesses and vendors.
4. Unfounded Concerns About Parking
The Bedford Borough Council has cited parking issues as a primary reason for considering the closure of Lagos Night Lounge. However, this claim is unfounded—there have been no significant parking problems during the club’s three years of operation. The suggestion that parking availability should result in the closure of one of Bedford's safest venues is simply not reasonable. The community has enjoyed the club’s presence without major parking concerns, and this excuse should not be used to shut it down.
Our Appeal:
We, Kamila (Manager of Lagos Night Lounge) and Junior  ( Owner of the Club), together with our loyal staff, ask the people of Bedford to show their support by signing this petition. The closure of the lounge would not only take away a cherished venue but also negatively impact the community’s social fabric and local economy.
Please sign this petition to let the council know that we value Lagos Night Lounge and want it to remain open. We will have both an online and in-club petition available for signatures. Every signature counts!
Visit us at the club, sign the petition, and help us protect this safe space for everyone.
Together, we can ensure that this important venue stays open for the benefit of the community.
Thank you for your support!
