Stop Killing Dogs at Franklin County Dog Shelter with Taxpayer Funds & Donations

The Issue

We need change at the Franklin County Dog Shelter, Columbus OH

Kaye Persinger has systematically dismantled everything that is beneficial to the DOGS:

  • Sabotaged and/or eliminated the foster program
  • Depleted the rescue partnerships by 2/3! Those who who have hung in there are now FULL or they are breed specific.
  • Refuses to provide any effective marketing for rescue dogs
  • Allows volunteer bullying
  • No screening of adopters (e.g. Bruno, and the multitude of adopted dogs found as strays, on Craig's List or returned.)
  • Has caused major staff shortages, including medical, that costs these dogs every single day
  • Did away with the Friends of the Shelter store,
  • Enforces a gag order for volunteers who work with the rescue dogs; no shared experiences that help in placement.
  • Refuses to hire a certified full-time trainer(s) for the largest dog shelter in the MidWest with a yearly budget of $6.5 MILLION dollars, but somehow has $$$ to arbitrarily have some of the floor replaced (?), a shelter van purchased, cubicles turned into a comfy lounge area outside her office, etc. etc.

This shelter should be using the annual funds appropriately for partnerships with a multitude of rescue and foster groups, without unnecessary limitations and to market for the adoption or foster of dogs, training of dogs, and community involvement to boost awareness. This was once advertised as "no kill shelter". Dogs are being put on the euthanasia list or "urgent list" (as they call it) at unnecessary rates. This needs to change immediately.
