Petition to Reject the Proposed Amendments to the National Credit Regulations Bill

Petition to Reject the Proposed Amendments to the National Credit Regulations Bill
To: The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition
Date: September 06, 2025
We, the undersigned, urge the Department to reject the proposed amendments to the National Credit Regulations. These changes would allow credit bureaus to record unpaid fees from university and TVET college students, damaging their credit records and risking blacklisting. For professionals such as law students, accountants, and medical practitioners, this could breach the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014, Section 24(2)(b), or similar regulatory standards requiring "fit and proper" status. This unfair policy harms the futures of all university and TVET college students across professions, conflicting with the equality principles of the Constitution of South Africa, 1996, Section 9. Please reject this bill to protect all the students.
