Petition to lower UK A-level and GCSE grade boundaries due to heat wave

The Issue

Many students across the country have been unable to revise as much as they could have otherwise due to this heat wave; this will directly have an impact on many of their grades, which they need to progress in life with. Whereas past generations did not have to deal with these circumstances, why should the 2026 generation score lower due to something completely outside of their control?. During this exam period, the hottest ever day in May in the UK was recorded, so it is very clear that these circumstances have not been dealt with before by previous generations and cannot be treated as having a negligible impact.

It is dishonest to pretend that the heat wave doesn't have a clear impact on what the students will score on the exams after the half term. We suggest that the UK government and the UK exam boards not let a generation down due to something that clearly jeopardized them unfairly.

In a few days this will be sent to Ofqual and JCQ.
