Petition to Keep the Basketball Court Open at LA Fitness Diamond Bar
Petition to Keep the Basketball Court Open at LA Fitness Diamond Bar
The Issue
We Urgently Call on LA Fitness Management to Preserve the Basketball Court at the Diamond Bar Location
We, the undersigned members and community supporters, respectfully urge LA Fitness management to keep the basketball court open at the Diamond Bar gym. This court is far more than just a section of the facility, it is a vital space for physical health, mental well-being, community connection, and positive youth engagement.
For many members, the Diamond Bar LA Fitness basketball court is one of the primary reasons we chose this gym. It provides an inclusive, accessible, and safe environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can stay active, build friendships, and develop healthy routines. Closing the court would negatively impact not only loyal members, but also the broader local community that relies on this space.
1. Basketball Is Essential to Physical and Mental Health
Basketball is a full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health, coordination, endurance, and strength. Beyond the physical benefits, it plays a huge role in mental health, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression through movement, social interaction, and teamwork.
For many members, especially those with demanding jobs or academic schedules, basketball is the only form of exercise that keeps them consistently active. Removing the court risks pushing people away from healthy habits entirely.
2. The Court Builds Community and Belonging
The basketball court at LA Fitness Diamond Bar has organically become a community hub. Regular pickup games foster friendships, accountability, and mutual respect. New members are welcomed, long-time members stay loyal, and people who may not otherwise connect find common ground.
In a time when social isolation is increasingly common, eliminating one of the gym’s most social spaces sends the wrong message. Gyms are not just about machines, they are about people.
3. A Safe and Positive Space for Youth and Young Adults
The basketball court offers a structured, supervised alternative to less healthy or less safe environments. It gives young people a place to spend their time productively, develop discipline, and stay off the streets.
Closing the court removes one of the few affordable, accessible indoor basketball options in the area, especially important during hot weather or evenings.
4. Closing the Court Undermines Member Value and Trust
Many members signed up or continue to pay their memberships with the expectation that the basketball court would remain available. Removing such a major amenity without adequate alternatives or input risks damaging member trust and satisfaction.
This decision may also lead to:
Membership cancellations
Negative word-of-mouth
Loss of long-term loyal members
Reduced competitiveness compared to nearby gyms that still offer courts
Keeping the court open is not just good for members, it is good business.
5. There Are Better Alternatives Than Closure
We strongly believe there are solutions short of permanently closing the court, such as:
Scheduled open-gym hours
Improved rules or supervision during peak times
Reservation systems
Maintenance or partial usage adjustments
We ask management to work with members, not against them, to find a balanced solution that meets operational needs while preserving what makes this location special.
Our Respectful Request
We respectfully ask LA Fitness leadership to:
Halt any plans to close or permanently repurpose the basketball court at the Diamond Bar location.
Engage with members to understand how important this space is
Explore reasonable alternatives that allow basketball access to continue
This court represents health, community, and consistency for so many of us. Once it’s gone, it cannot easily be replaced.
Sign This Petition to Protect Our Court
If you believe gyms should support both fitness and community, if you value accessible sports spaces, and if you want LA Fitness Diamond Bar to remain a place where people truly want to be, please sign and share this petition.
Let’s work together to keep the basketball court open.
