Petition to Housing Services Queensland – Ongoing Community Safety Concerns at 8 Carter St
Petition to Housing Services Queensland – Ongoing Community Safety Concerns at 8 Carter St
The issue
We, the undersigned residents and property owners living in the neighbouring residential complexes surrounding 8 Carter Street, North Ward, respectfully request immediate action regarding the ongoing antisocial and unlawful behaviour occurring at this Housing-managed property.
As neighbouring residents, we have experienced a sustained decline in the safety, security and peaceful enjoyment of our homes due to repeated incidents originating from this property.
Over an extended period, residents have observed and experienced:
- Frequent police attendance at the property.
- Excessive noise and disturbances, often occurring late into the night.
- Aggressive and intimidating behaviour affecting neighbouring residents.
- Suspected drug-related activity.
- Excessive alcohol consumption resulting in disorderly behaviour.
- Trespassing onto neighbouring properties.
- Break-ins and theft from storage areas belonging to nearby residents.
- Attempted unlawful entry into neighbouring homes and private property.
Ongoing behaviour that has caused residents to fear for their personal safety and the security of their homes.
These incidents have had a significant impact on the surrounding community.
Families, elderly residents, owner-occupiers and tenants alike have endured ongoing stress, disruption and concern for their safety.
Many residents no longer feel comfortable enjoying their own homes or common areas because of the persistent disturbances.
We fully support the role of public housing in providing safe and secure accommodation for people who genuinely need it.
This petition is not directed towards public housing or its tenants generally.
Many Housing Queensland tenants are respectful members of the community.
Our concern is with the persistent unlawful and antisocial behaviour that appears to be occurring at this particular property and the ongoing impact it is having on neighbouring residents.
We respectfully request that Housing Services Queensland:
- Investigate the repeated complaints relating to 8 Carter Street.
- Continue working closely with the Queensland Police Service regarding ongoing criminal and antisocial behaviour.
- Enforce tenancy obligations where breaches have occurred.
- Take appropriate action to restore the safety, security and amenity of the surrounding neighbourhood.
- Ensure that government housing continues to provide homes for people who respect their neighbours and contribute positively to the local community.
- Our community simply wishes to live in a safe, peaceful and respectful neighbourhood. We ask that this matter be treated with urgency so that all residents can once again enjoy the quiet and security that every member of our community deserves.
We thank you for your consideration and look forward to a meaningful response.
