Let’s talk about what Connecticut law ACTUALLY requires when a dog is found. Under Connecticut General Statutes §22-332, this is NOT optional:

If a dog is found and the owner is unknown, animal control MUST: Publish the dog in a newspaper with circulation.

Post the dog ONLINE in a way that is accessible to the public

Hold that dog for a minimum of 7 days AFTER publication

Now let’s break that down in plain English…

“Published” means people can ACTUALLY SEE IT.

Not hidden behind a paywall Not buried in an e-edition you have to subscribe to. Not something the average person will NEVER come across.

“Posted online” means: Accessible Searchable Visible to the PUBLIC. NOT just posted when the dog becomes “available” NOT skipping the “found dog” stage Because here’s the truth… If a dog isn’t properly advertised as FOUND —  Owners don’t get a fair chance to find them   The legal hold becomes meaningless   And the entire purpose of the law is ignored.

This law exists for ONE reason: To reunite dogs with their families. So the real question is…   Are these dogs truly being given that chance? Or are we checking boxes instead of actually following the law?

The community deserves transparency. Taxpayers deserve accountability and these dogs deserve better SHARE THIS.

People need to understand what is supposed to be happening.
