The issue

There is a huge demand for young people to have access to a proper bike park in the Armstrong Creek area, particularly around the Warralily estate. With huge numbers of young people on bikes without any proper facilities to ride them. Young kids and teenagers have had to construct illegal jumps along the creek to keep themselves occupied. However the placement of these puts other pedestrians at risk, as well as attracting illegal e-bike and motorbike riding at high speeds, which puts the riders and everyone else at risk.

Instead of the council periodically needing to destroy the illegal jumps, why not spend the funds to build a proper jumps park, similar to the one recently opened in Ocean Grove. Unlike the large amount of playgrounds, which only cater to small children, a bike park will cater to young children, teens and even adults.

There is ample room in the Warralily area to construct one, for example the new reserve that will be going in alongside Horseshoe Bend Road, on either sides of Warralily Boulevard. Or even the large open space below the crematoriam.

This will save money having to destroy jumps, vandalism from bored teenagers and environmental damage.

We have seen the transformative impact similar projects have had in other communities, such as the Anglesea Bike Park which brought increased tourism and community events. Thus, it is with great conviction that we put forward this petition to the City of Greater Geelong (COGG) council. Let's advocate for a change that positively impacts our neighborhood. The council has been instrumental in past infrastructural developments in Armstrong Creek; we believe they can bring the vision of a bike park to life.

The location of the park within the Warralily Estate would be ideal, given its central position and accessibility within Armstrong Creek. It could include a variety of tracks and facilities suitable for different age groups and skill levels, such as pump tracks, jumps, and beginner trails, ensuring inclusivity for all.

By signing this petition, you will be adding your voice to a growing call for action, urging the COGG council to prioritize the development of a bike park in our community. Please sign today and help us turn this dream into a reality!
