Revitalize the West 49 skateboard park

Revitalize the West 49 skateboard park
The Issue
Peterborough doesn't have enough space in the one and only Skatepark available. It is in terrible shape due to lack of funding and there is nowhere else for skaters to go without receiving fines and or tickets. I am proposing that the city pay to cover the park from rain and snow, expand and repair the park, and light the park through the night instead of shutting the lights off at 11:07PM. Currently the one of biggest issues in Peterborough with skateboarding is with The Peterborough Square calling police and ticketing children and adults alike. Another example is both the Bus terminal parking garage as well as the King Street parking garage. Skateboarding in these parking garages can be considerably unsafe and security continues to repeatedly kick skaters out. These kids aren't looking to cause trouble, they are looking for a place with a covering from the bad weather to continue practicing their sport. Problems like this wouldn't exist if the city would actually put the resources towards the community that always has and always will exist here. In my opinion it's a fundamentally necessary addition to the community that is quite normal in many other parts of the world. Many community's have several skate park locations making proper maintenance of our one and only not too much to ask for.
