Pet Boarding Guidelines On Indian Flights need Immediate Change - Pilot cannot decide
The Issue
All Pet lovers will agree that pets are their babies and any ill-treatment of them is unacceptable. My 20-month old daughter Fluffy(pet toy-poodle) was denied boarding on AI - 503 BLR - ATQ (Bangalore Amritsar, on Airindia) on 17th - This was after all due procedure of fitness, airline approved cage, vaccination certificates were checked at the airport 4 hours in advance and then she was issued a boarding pass. Right at the time of boarding the PIC (Pilot-in Command) refused entry for her, without seeing the her, the cage or any other documentation. We were told we can fly if we leave her out - this was absurd.
Now I hope and pray in future no one goes through such an ordeal. Here is my simple ask.
Have clear guidelines for pet boarding a flight, and this should be done in advance with a ticket, not at the last minute
And when you go to the airport the crew cannot check (what do they understand about a pet), a certified veterinarian to be present to check and certify fitness to travel
PIC has no role to play - if the docs are there and pet is as per the stipulated height, weight, and in right apparatus to be carried, that's all that is needed
This will help plan travel for all pet parents and not torture them to death like mine, where I have lost all my bookings for the 12-day vacation
This is a simple petition for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to make changes to the DGCA guidelines and also the CAR, so that no such harassment occurs in the future
