Show Some Love: “A Little Bit Of Love Goes A Long Way”

The Issue

Will A little bit of Love go a Long Way?

Too many times many are faced with discrimination in one form or the other. Recently, a mother in Australia voiced her concerns on behalf of her little son, Quaden, who is a victim of bullying for having a condition called achondroplasiaa growth disorder that affects the growth of the bones thereby resulting in short stature. The most apparent reason kids become a target for bullying is being different in some way. Why does this matter to me? Bullying is outright wrong!

My name is Neetu Sookram, founder of Love Ah Little, a clothing company for little people and people with special needs. I was blessed about five years ago with a daughter after trying for many years. My daughter is also born with achondroplasia. Some first reactions from family and friends were “I am so sorry” and there it hit me. Lack of awareness prompted the thought to say “how sorry they were to hear”. Nevertheless, without even seeing her, she was already being discriminated against. I can only speak from the level of being a mom. To even know what my daughter has yet to face in this world is so farfetched. Should I think of all the hate and negativity? The question is there every day. It breaks my heart to witness what Quaden and his family endure. I refuse to allow the negativity to outweigh the positivity and possibilities that this world has to offer. The words “A Little Bit Of Love Goes A Long Way” often brings me comfort.

Love Ah Little was established for this reason. As a parent of an achondroplasic child, finding and purchasing clothes that fit at a clothing store seem to be a task. The very thought of it reeks of discrimination for the community of ‘little people’. After some thought, I decided to put my skills with the help of my family to start a company dedicated to the service of little people. It’s my way of saying a little love can go a long way even if it’s just a t-shirt that fits perfectly.

We, at Love Ah Little, started a campaign to show Quaden and others who have been discriminated against that there is more love in the world than hate and discrimination. We want to show our love and just a little bit may go a long way.
