Permit Students' Comfort in Cold Weather

Permit Students' Comfort in Cold Weather
The issue
When I was in a class and the aircon and fans were on, I was scolded by a teacher for putting my hands in my pockets to keep them warm. It seemed unjust to be reprimanded for simply trying to stay comfortable in low temperatures. This experience sparked a realization: schools should be places where students can feel physically comfortable, especially during cold weather.
Cairns may be known for its tropical climate, but winters can bring unexpected chills, particularly in the early mornings when students arrive at school. Denying students the simple comfort of warming their hands in their pockets or moving to a sunnier spot outside seems unreasonable and unnecessarily harsh.
Restricting students from adapting to their environment by these small measures may hinder their ability to focus and participate actively in classroom disscusions, thereby impacting their learning experience. Allowing students these minor freedoms can significantly enhance their comfort and productivity during school hours.
We propose that school policies in Cairns, QLD, be revised to allow students to put their hands in their pockets if they are cold and to permit them to move outside, into sunnier areas, when needed. These adjustments pose no disruption to the school environment but, in contrast, promise to foster a more accommodating and student-friendly setting.
Let's prioritize student welfare by making these practical changes to school policies, ensuring all students can focus on their education in comfort. Sign this petition to support students' right to comfort in Cairns, QLD schools.
