Peiffer Ave Sidewalk
The Issue
Peiffer Ave is a heavily-used neighborhood collector street used by families living along the road, in the Greenville Village Community, and those accessing Friends School of Wilmington.
Unfortunately Peiffer Ave is not at all pedestrian friendly. There is currently no sidewalk. The road is narrow and drivers tend to ignore the posted 25 MPH Speed Limit.
Why do we need a sidewalk?
- Students walk to Oleander Dr. for their school bus stop
- Mothers and fathers push baby strollers to the Salvation Army
- Bus riders walk to the city bus stop on Oleander Dr.
- Retirees and many others walk their dogs
- Joggers, walkers and runners use the road to get exercise
Every one of these instances is a safety risk.
From Oleander Dr to the FSOW entrance, Peiffer Ave is less than a half mile long (0.45 mi to be exact). But it is a dangerous walk for every man, woman and child every time.
Why else do we need a sidewalk?
- Without sidewalks distracted drivers are at risk of hitting pedestrians
- Drivers' liability is vastly reduced with sidewalks
- Improved walkability for everyone in the community, drawing more out to the Salvation Army, Beach Bagels and Dairy Queen
- Businesses get a boost
- Improved walkability promotes healthy exercise (ok maybe not DQ, but hey you're burning some of the calories on the walk!)
- Improved land value for existing homeowners
- More attractive for future unused land development, building the city's revenue base
The mission of this petition is first to raise awareness of these safety risks to everyone using Peiffer Ave so we protect our loved ones and neighbors. Ultimately though, talking about safety is not enough.
This petition seeks to gather overwhelming support to see our vision of a sidewalk installed the full length of Peiffer Ave.

A sidewalk on Peiffer Ave is P.A.S.T. due!
