Request Warrnambool Council, give the opportunity to have Outdoor pool in peak hours.
The issue
It is a well known fact to a no. of people that use the community pool, the 25m indoor pool does not have the space to cater for the diverse needs of the community that utilises it. People want to use it. The amazing staff, and the asset of the outdoor pool are already there.
- When the Outdoor pool closes every year after summer due to the cost of running it. There is only one 25m to cater for the whole community. It is a public pool and I believe the costs could be viewed in the way that our people's wellbeing and health far outweighs any monetary amount.
This affects local Swimming groups. Sports teams. The Elderly and people using the pool for essential rehabilitation and mental and physical well being. Local children learning to swim and their parents.
If the outdoor pool continues to close after summer all of these local people are affected.
If there may be any solutions to be explored, for example trialling the Outdoor pool being open all year round in peak times eg 6am -11am and 3pm - 7pm this may benefit many people.
The Fitzroy pool in Melbourne is open all year round in inclement weather and is a shining example of community patronage, wellbeing and social connection.
Does the community need to wait until a complete restructure of the Public pool? Could immediate action be taken now by trialling a peak time opening hours? Creating continued benefits & exploring patronage?
One Lady that swims commented that the feeling she gets from swimming is ‘untouchable’ and helps her cope.
Can we utilise a facility that is there already, and that will benefit the health and wellbeing of many?
All questions to have a respectful conversation and maybe find some solutions.
Please sign if you agree or if this resonates or would benefit you. Leave your name and comment if you'd like to share why this may be important to you.
Thank you.
PS I so value that some people have been able to share why this is important to them personally. Thank you.
