Paul Givan, the current Education Minister of Northern Ireland and a member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), recently participated in an "educational trip" to Israel. As a concerned citizen deeply troubled by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, I find Givan's actions and affiliations particularly upsetting. Israel is widely criticised for its policies and actions attempting to ethnically cleanse the palestinian people.

During his visit, Givan was frequently seen aligning himself with symbols of Israel, including being photographed with Israeli flags. This conduct raises serious questions about where his sympathies lie in this complex and highly sensitive conflict. It is unjustifiable for a representative of the Northern Irish Education authority, to implicitly support one side in a controversial ongoing international dispute.

Furthermore, Givan's involvement with such a trip suggests complacency, if not outright endorsement, of policies that many in the international community condemn. As an educator, he holds a position of influence over the minds of future generations in Northern Ireland. The values and perspectives he projects could shape the beliefs and biases of our youth. Should we allow someone who appears to support unjust and oppressive policies to remain in such a pivotal role?

Northern Ireland's education system deserves a leader who promotes peace, understanding, and impartiality, and who reflects the values of equity and justice that we strive to instill in our children. Paul Givan, given his actions and affiliations, does not embody those values.

I urge the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Education Authority to remove Paul Givan from his post as Education Minister. His actions are incongruent with the responsibilities of a position intended to foster unbiased education and moral integrity. Let us take a stand for ethical leadership and demand accountability from those in positions of power.
