Golborne St Thomas School Petition

Golborne St Thomas School Petition

The Issue

We the undersigned petition the Bishop of Liverpool ( who opened the parish hall in 1959 as a result of the generosity of the community in raising the money needed to complete the hall ) to reverse the undemocratic decision of the Head Teacher of St Thomas’ school in both changing the name and use ( including the Drama group, the annual Christmas fair and other charitable functions ) of the Parish Hall into the school hall.

More Information:

Mrs Brindle, Head teacher of St Thomas' School, cleverly changed the name of the Parish Hall to school hall so that the hall was no longer the natural home of the Drama group, the annual Christmas fair and other charitable functions, at one blow, destroying 70 years of unbroken cooperation and beneficial tradition.
Building work was her opportunity to prevent the performance of the Christmas pantomime-taking place. despite the children and adults putting many long hours into the preparation and rehearsals. Mrs Brindle stressed that this was a one off, unavoidable and temporary event, which subsequently proved false, as there has been much fear of the Drama Group's destruction. Additionally, the Christmas fair and a Fashion Show in aid of the Church roof are taking place in other venues.
Mrs Brindle is intransigent, refusing to come to any understanding, so much so that all of the senior School Governors have resigned.
The Rev: Reed and Councillor Klieve hoped to set up a meeting between representatives of the Drama Group, the archdiocese, Rev: Reed. Councillor Klieve and Head Teacher, Mrs Brindle to see if they could make any progress with her, but after consultation, Mrs Brindle simply refused to meet them.
Mrs Brindle is adamant that after 70 years of rich tradition and cooperation that the class rooms can no longer be used for the Drama Group, the Christmas fair or other charitable functions to use as changing rooms.
The Drama Group donates approximately £600 per year to the School. Moreover, this amateur group of people also raised £3,000 to refurbish the stage in the Parish Hall after it was condemned by the Health and Safety Inspectorate.
A peppercorn rent of one penny a year was agreed so that the Parish Hall could be used by the Parish, Mrs Brindle has now arbitrarily introduced a charge of £12 an hour for the use of the Parish Hall.
The Head Teacher even cites Conflict of Interests as an excuse for not negotiating. The Rev: Reed was forced to resign his position as President of the Drama Group. Councillor Klieve, her two daughters are members of the Drama Group, only became active after me, as her constituent, made a complaint about Mrs Brindle's actions.
Past Head Teachers have passed on to the community many valuable improvements, while this Head Teacher will leave a Waste Land, and has alienated the community against her.
