World Ocean's Day is just two weeks away! And so if you are in Hong Kong on June 8th and have no plans yet, please come out to Pebbles Beach (小石灘) on Tap Mun (塔門) to help us continue our effort at clearing the industrial level of polystyrene and other waste that infects the shore there.
Please sign-up here.
And if you are not in Hong Kong, there are events happening worldwide for World Ocean's Day. To find an event near you, head on over to: https://www.worldoceansday.org/events-list
And thank you everyone for keeping this petition going! The team at Apple Daily really did an amazing thing last month by enabling me to reach out to the masses. It took me two years to get to just 800 signatures. With the great work of Lam Yik, Curtis, and Ling, we achieved over 8,000 in a little more than a month. I can't thank you enough!
But please help me to keep pushing this. This is just a simple first step to getting the government department here, the AFCD, whose mission is to "Conserve our natural environment and safeguard the ecological integrity" to acknowledge that marine waste is a critically urgent threat. Who would think it would take a petition for this? Can you imagine the US Parks Service or Parks Australia having such an attitude?
It is just a first step to getting acceptance and hopefully start steering towards government accountability and maybe actually implementing environmentally sound policies which seem so rare in Hong Kong. There are many more steps ahead after this that we need to take. But with each one, we are one step closer to our final destination.
Thanks,
Chris
