一個星期前, 美國佛羅里達州發現一條擱置咗嘅海豚肚裡面全都係膠袋, 最後被迫要人道毀滅. 曾經令人誤以為我地不斷掉垃圾落海唔會對瀕危嘅海豚及鼠海豚呢兩類哺乳類動物產生嚴重嘅威脅. 但係, 事實可能證明係我地誤解, 對於我地海洋環境受到垃圾嚴重嘅折磨, 唔知呢個最新嘅事態發展最終會唔會鼓勵到我地漁護署及香港政府開始著手發展佢地嘅護理本港的「自然環境及維護生態系統」呢? 不過佢地長期保持沈默令我都覺得唔係太樂觀.

One week ago a beached dolphin was found in Florida, USA with plastic bags in its stomach. It had to be put down. Previously it’s been thought that our vulnerable pink dolphins and finless porpoises are less at risk to our continuous dumping of plastic waste in the ocean because both mammals target prey that plastic waste is not usually mistaken for. This case proves otherwise. Will this latest development finally encourage the AFCD and gov.hk to begin taking their mission to “safeguard the ecological integrity” of our marine environment seriously and begin active education of the plague of marine waste? Their continued silence on the topic doesn’t give me much hope.
