Pass Oaklynn’s Law — Hold People Accountable When They Fail to Report Known Child Abuse

The Issue

A child’s death should never be the price of someone else’s silence.

Oaklynn’s life was cut short in a tragedy that should never have happened. People around her knew she was being abused. They saw the signs. They heard the cries. They witnessed the injuries. And yet — no one reported it. Their silence allowed the abuse to continue until it took her life.

We cannot bring Oaklynn back. But we can make sure no other child suffers the same fate.

Why Oaklynn’s Law Is Needed

Child abuse rarely happens in total secrecy. In many cases, someone close to the child knows — a family member, a partner, a neighbor, a friend. But current laws often fail to hold individuals accountable when they knowingly allow abuse to continue.

When adults stay silent:

  • Children remain trapped in dangerous homes
  • Abusers continue their violence
  • Warning signs go unreported
  • Preventable deaths occur

Silence is not protection. Silence is complicity.

Oaklynn’s story is heartbreaking, but it is not unique. Too many children suffer because adults who could have spoken up chose not to.

What Oaklynn’s Law Would Do

We are calling for legislation that:

  • Holds individuals legally accountable when they knowingly fail to report child abuse that results in a child’s severe injury or death
  • Defines clear reporting responsibilities for adults who witness or suspect abuse
  • Establishes criminal penalties for willful failure to report in cases where a child dies
  • Strengthens early intervention, giving children a better chance of being removed from dangerous environments
  • Creates a culture of responsibility, making it clear that protecting children is a legal and moral obligation

This law is not about punishing innocent people. It is about ensuring that those who knowingly allow a child to remain in harm’s way face consequences for their inaction.

We Demand Action

Oaklynn deserved safety. She deserved protection. She deserved a future.

By signing this petition, you are standing up for children who cannot stand up for themselves. You are demanding that lawmakers take meaningful action to prevent future tragedies. You are saying that a child’s life is worth more than someone’s desire to “stay out of it.”

We urge our legislators to draft, introduce, and pass Oaklynn’s Law immediately.

Sign this petition if you believe:

  • No child should die because adults stayed silent
  • People who know about abuse should be legally required to report it
  • Children deserve stronger protections and earlier intervention

Oaklynn’s story must lead to change

Let Oaklynn’s legacy be a law that protects children for generations to come.
