Parent Advocating for Removal of Amanda Hayes as Principal of Center Elementary School

Parent Advocating for Removal of Amanda Hayes as Principal of Center Elementary School
The Issue
I write this request from a place of deep concern, as a parent whose child's safety has been jeopardized. Under the current principal, Amanda Hayes, Center Elementary School seems to prioritize a positive image over the wellbeing of students and staff. The principal minimizes open communication between staff and parents and things go unchanged until out of hand or it cannot be hidden. While Center School has some of the most dedicated therapists, support staff, teachers and dedication I have seen in our area, the amount of stories that have come forward make it obvious something needs to change in administration if they won't acknowledge their mistakes and find a way to do better and focus on what is a problem and concern for a large portion of their families.
My special needs and not verbal son has found himself in numerous situations that could have brought him harm. The most recent when he was able to exit the building (see attached link for details). He is just one among many students whose safety has been compromised by. These episodes are largely due to what many of us perceive to be Hayes' ineffective and problematic management of the school. Parents and staff concur that Hayes has used her position to silence criticism and to maintain her reputation at the expense of safety and transparency.
This regressive status quo masks serious problems that put our children in danger. It also stifles teachers, preventing them from advocating for themselves or addressing their needs. This kind of environment is harmful to both teachers and students, hindering their ability to thrive and succeed.
We recognize that the role of a principal is challenging, requiring a balance between school management and creating an atmosphere conducive to learning. Those who fill these positions should have our students' best interests at heart, which, unfortunately, is not the case at our school.
Therefore, we respectfully demand the removal of Amanda Hayes from her position as Principal of Center Elementary School. Only through this necessary action can we lay the foundation for a healthier, safer, and more suitable learning environment for our children and a more supportive workplace for our teachers. Please sign this petition to begin the process of healing and change at Center Elementary School. Feel free to comment your personal experiences as well. They will be attached to the petition.
We ask anyone who feels deeply on this issue with input to be at the School Board Meeting on February 18th at 501 E South St, Freeport, IL. We ask that people please speak up.
