The Issue

The 'vinyl revival' is well and truly upon us all. In 2015, the sales of vinyl in the UK increased to 2.9 million, proving that the format is making a statement that it's here to stay. Artists continue to release their work onto vinyl, re-issued classics are beginning to hit the shelves for the younger generations, and celebrations such as the annual Record Store Day keep us record collectors happier than we've ever been.

But what about the music that isn't pressed?

If you buy vinyl you'll quick be able to think of one album you were never given the chance to spin on your turntable; simply because it didn't exist. Maybe it's that one album out of the discography that was never 'vinyl-ed'. Or that hit album that you've always believed is in desperate need of a vinyl release.

For me, a 20-year-old vinyl enthusiast, I have many albums that unfortunately fall under the unreleased category. For example, both MIKA's debut 'Life In Cartoon Motion' (2007) and Sia's 'Some People Have Real Problems' (2007), and even Jess Glynne's number-one hit filled debut 'I Laugh When I Cry' (2015) were all denied a vinyl pressing upon their original release.

But above these releases I consider there to be one album that deserves a vinyl pressing more than most, and that's Paloma Faith's elegant debut 'Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful?' (2009). Initially released in September of 2009, a year that saw debuts from the likes of Mumford & Sons and Florence + the Machine, the album introduced Paloma as a definitive voice of the British music scene.

The album collectively is incredible work, that was critically met with reviews that favoured Faith's distinct vocals and praised the singer-songwriter's pop-jazz music. It hosted the hit singles 'Stone Cold Sober', 'New York', 'Upside Down', my personal favourite 'Smoke & Mirrors' and many other brilliant tracks. All songs that fans are waiting to be given the opportunity to spin on their record players.

What's seems almost unfair is that if we fast-forward 6-years both of Faith's follow-up albums 'Fall To Grace' (2012) and 'The Perfect Contradiction' (2014) were pressed onto vinyl. However limited (and expensive) they might be now, it begs the question, "if the others were released onto vinyl, why not the first one?". I don't have the luck needed to possess either album on vinyl, but I want to make sure that a vinyl release of Paloma's debut would be accessible to all those who want it.

One of the main things I'm trying to accomplish with this petition is to generate enough backing to show the record companies that there is a demand for this album to be released on vinyl. More importantly however, I'm hopeful that with a little help we can bring what myself and many others believe to be an incredible album to life in a vinyl format.

Whether you're new or old fan of Paloma's music, a fan of vinyl, or just simply a music lover please consider signing this petition to get recognition that a vinyl pressing of 'Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful?' isn't a want, it's a need.

You can listen to the album on Spotify and download it on iTunes.

This petition does not have any link to Paloma Faith or any of her team. This is simply an individual trying to achieve a vinyl pressing of Paloma's debut album.
