The Issue

In a country where millions live below the poverty line, no girl should have to choose between dignity and education. Yet thousands still do—missing school, using unsafe alternatives, and suffering in silence because they can't access a basic necessity: sanitary pads.

At GoAllOut, we're not just raising awareness—we’re making history. We've already collected and distributed over 120,000 sanitary pads and set a Guinness World Record in our fight to end period poverty. But we're not done yet.

On August 18, we’re marching to the North West Legislature to hand over this petition and demand what every girl deserves: menstrual dignity and equity.

Even though the national government has allocated a budget for free sanitary pads, many girls are still left behind due to lack of accountability and transparency at provincial level. The system is failing them—and we’re here to change that.

Here’s what we’re demanding:

  1. Proper use of the sanitary pad budget in the North West to reach rural and underserved communities.
  2. Ongoing audits and accountability in schools and public restrooms to maintain hygiene standards.
  3. National recognition of menstrual health as a human right—with policies and funding to match.
  4. Free sanitary pads in public institutions, with safe disposal options.
  5. Infrastructure support: With help from Bidvest Steiner, we’ve already launched free pad dispensers at North West University. This model must expand to all key public spaces.

We call on the Departments of Social Development, Health, Basic Education, Water & Sanitation, and the Department of Women, Youth and People with Disabilities to act now.

Period poverty is a policy failure—and we’re paving the way for something better.
