The Issue

Hockey is supposed to be more than a game. It’s supposed to be a community—a village that develops not just athletes, but people. A place that supports families, builds character, and sets the standard for leadership.

But when accountability is inconsistent and processes lack transparency, that foundation begins to break.

In the Media
This issue is already gaining attention. I recently spoke with CTV News Toronto about accountability in youth hockey.

What’s Broken
Through lived experience, key gaps are clear:

  • Families may not see complaints filed on their behalf.
  • Individuals may not receive details of allegations in a timely way.
  • Outcomes and discipline are often unclear.
  • The current process lacks consistency, transparency, and trust.

A system that withholds information from both the accused and the affected family is not transparent—it is broken.

Transparency delayed is trust denied.

What Needs to Change—Now

We are calling for:

✔️ Reconciliation and Restoration: Justice is not complete without restoration.
When allegations are unsubstantiated, those affected must be reinstated, their reputations repaired, and their place in the game restored.

✔️ Full access to complaints filed on your behalf: Families must be able to review and verify what is submitted in their name.

✔️ “First 48” transparency standard:
All parties—both the affected family and the respondent—must receive clear details of allegations within 48 hours to ensure accuracy, fairness, and timely response.

✔️ Clear communication of outcomes:
Families should understand what decisions were made and what actions were taken.

✔️ Reform of the independent review process: Independent third-party review already exists—but it must be strengthened to ensure- transparency timely information sharing and true accountability.

✔️ A consistent and fair process for everyone: A standardized framework that protects accuracy, communication, and due process.

Closing

Over 99% of kids will never play professional hockey.

This isn’t just about hockey—this is about life.

If something doesn’t feel right—speak up.

If you’ve tried before—try again.

Because it takes a village.

And together—we can fix it.

Our Way Now; Together we can accomplish anything!

For the Game. For the Community.

*This petition is focused on improving processes and transparency across youth hockey systems, not on any individual case.
