OVERCROWDING IN AC COACHES IN TRAINS

The Issue

Dear Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to draw your attention to some pressing issues that have been causing significant inconvenience to railway passengers across the country. The primary concern is the severe problem of overcrowding in trains, which has been exacerbated by the recent reduction in the number of unreserved coaches. This reduction has led to unreserved passengers forcefully occupying reserved and even AC coaches, creating a chaotic and uncomfortable travel experience for all. Never before was the situation so bad. Second AC Coaches now resemble Sleeper Coaches and Sleeper Class and Unreserved are indistinguishable. What is shameful is that even First AC Coaches are not spared by ticketless passengers.

It is imperative that the Ministry reconsiders this decision and ensures that sufficient unreserved coaches are available to accommodate the high number of passengers who depend on these facilities. The focus should not be on mindlessly making cosmetic displays to pompously indulge in self praise, as seen with lop sided focus and tomtoming of Vande Bharat trains. While modernization is important, a soulless approach that neglects the essential needs of the common traveler can destroy the unique charm of Indian railways.

Our railway system needs to prioritize reducing overcrowding, improving punctuality, and maintaining cleanliness. These fundamental aspects are crucial for the daily comfort and safety of millions of passengers. It is disheartening to observe that, instead of addressing these critical concerns, there appears to be a disproportionate amount of attention given to posting trivial content, such as trivia and quizzes, on social media platforms like Twitter by none other than Railway Minister himself.

As the Railway Minister, your focus should be on ensuring that the railways operate efficiently and meet the expectations of the public. Social media engagement is beneficial for outreach, but it should not overshadow the pressing needs of the railway infrastructure and passenger experience.

I urge you to take immediate action to address the overcrowding issue by increasing the number of unreserved coaches, improving the punctuality of trains, and maintaining higher standards of cleanliness.

It is high time you resolve these issues, as people are losing patience with the state of affairs.
