Our Pets Are Being Poisoned in Mauritius. This Must Stop!

The Issue

Every day in Mauritius, pets are being deliberately poisoned.

Not by accident.
Not by ignorance.
But by people who know exactly what they are doing.

Dogs and cats are found convulsing, bleeding, and dying in agonyoften in front of the very families who love them.

And in most cases?

Nothing happens.

No investigation.
No accountability.
No justice.

This is not just animal cruelty.
This is a failure of enforcement and a gap in how seriously these acts are treated.

Today, in Mauritius, someone can poison a pet and face little to no real consequence.

That must change.

As someone involved in animal welfare and rescue, I have seen firsthand the suffering caused by neglect, abuse, and cruelty.

But poisoning is different.

It is intentional.
It is calculated.
And it is one of the most inhumane ways to take a life.

We are calling on the authorities in Mauritius to take immediate action:

• Recognize intentional animal poisoning as a serious criminal offense
• Enforce strict penalties, including fines and imprisonment
• Establish clear procedures for reporting and investigating these cases
• Strengthen enforcement of existing animal welfare laws

This issue goes beyond animals.

Research and global evidence show that cruelty towards animals is often linked to broader patterns of violence in society.

When such acts are ignored, it sends a dangerous message:
that suffering does not matter.

Pets are not objects.

They are living beings capable of fear, pain, and love.
They are part of our families.

And right now, they are not being protected.

We cannot normalize this.

We cannot ignore this.

We cannot accept a system where cruelty goes unpunished.

Sign this petition to demand:

Justice.
Accountability.
Protection.

For every animal that has suffered.
And for every pet that could be next.
