Requesting a new street in Oshawa to be named "Fossmobile"

The Issue

The Oshawa Development Services Committee voted down the request to name a street after the Fossmobile. The Fossmobile was Canada's first successful gasoline automobile, built in 1897. With Oshawa being a Canadian city and the heartland of Canadian automotive history, the Foss family thought it would be fitting to have a street named after this Canadian accomplishment.

Those who voted against may have been incorrectly swayed by incorrect comments from one opposing councillor. While that record has been set straight, is it enough without the voice of the people?

George Foss and Sam McLaughlin knew each other and George not only taught Sam how to drive, he also sold him his very first automobile. So there is a Canadian and Oshawa legacy that could be embraced.

Furthermore the Foss family is building a replica of the Fossmobile and it is to be  be donated to the Canadian Automotive Museum, which is situated in downtown Oshawa. Our strategy is to create multiple icons of the Fossmobile, so that future generations embrace its history and we thought Oshawa was one of the best cites in Canada to achieve this goal.

City Council meets on June 21st for a final vote on this matter and we are hoping the citizens of Oshawa will help make this request a reality. We think Fossmobile Drive is fitting to this city and its role in promoting and preserving automotive history.
