Oppose the planned housing development at Dudman Farm
The Issue
The fields which make up Dudman Farm (located in Highertown on the outskirts of Truro) are made up of grassland, woodland and meadow habitat, supporting a huge range of animal and plant life. Creatures such as the Six Spot Burnett Moth, Skipper Butterflies and larger animals - for example Foxes, Green Woodpeckers and birds of prey all reside in the area and contribute to the natural beauty of the habitat and the stability of its eco-system.
Relatively untouched aside from infrequent grazing over recent years, the area represents one of the few remaining undeveloped green havens for walkers, nature lovers and local dog owners on this side of Truro.
Now the site is under threat as a planning application on behalf of Wain Homes Southwest (planning ref. PA22/05032) has been submitted with the intention of 'developing' the area with the addition of 275 new houses.
A development such as this would destroy vast areas of habitat rich in biodiversity whilst simultaneously increasing potential for flooding, risk causing further contamination of local rivers and streams and causing huge disturbance to local wildlife - much of which is already under threat from other human activities.
Truro - like much of Cornwall - is already at capacity with new developments and in most cases the local facilities have not been able to cope with the huge increase in population, to say nothing of the disastrous and dangerous effects on the county's roads. Building on the proposed area would be hugely detrimental to the local ecology, the local people and the already stretched local services.
This petition is to request that Wain Homes withdraw their application, that the local council uses whatever means are at their disposal to block the approval of such a plan, and that alternative solutions such as a re-examination of the second-homes policies in the South West are considered before placing more of our dwindling green spaces under threat.
