The Issue

Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale has notified us that the govt has approved name changes for the following British-themed named railway stations.

Frankly, the old names are a remnant to a past that defined Mumbai.

New proposed name changes will cause confusion amongst the general public as there are already some areas named after the proposed idea.

One of the proposed names is the name of a religious god for Jain folks, and any defilation of the railway station caused will be sacrilege toward their god.

Here are the proposed names :

Mumbai Central: Proposed to be renamed after philanthropist Jagannath Shankar Seth.

Curry Road: It is likely to be renamed to Lalbagh.

Sandhurst Road: This is slated to be renamed as 'Dongri'.

Marine Lines: The proposed new name for this station is Mumba Devi.

Charni Road: This could be rechristened as Girgaon.

Cotton Green: This Mumbai local railway station is likely to be renamed as Black Chowki.

Dockyard Road: Its new name will be Mazgaon after the Centre's approval.

Kings Circle: This Mumbai local railway station might be called Tirthankara Parshvanath soon.

Help us sign the petition to oppose these changes and keep the old charm and integral cultural part of Mumbai intact <3.
