Oppose the Construction of Pool 10 Mooring Cell by US Army Corps of Engineers

Oppose the Construction of Pool 10 Mooring Cell by US Army Corps of Engineers
The Issue
We live in a serene small town named Guttenberg in Iowa, cherished for its captivating riverfront views, bike trails, and walking paths. Our community pulls itself together as a hub of tourism, all built around the picturesque and awe-inspiring view of the MIssissippi river. But this peaceful serenity is under threat - the proposed construction of Mississippi River pool 10 mooring cell threatens our community.
This proposal by the US Army Corps of Engineers, under the attention of Lewis Weiechmann, is set to construct a permanent structure just north of Lock & dam 10. Downstream towboats will moor barges awaiting access to the lock. Nestled adjacent to Ingleside park, the scenic river walk, and within view of the national scenic byway Great River Road, this structure is a looming threat to the environment, local economy, tourism, and quality of life in our dear town.
Guttenberg, IA is not just a waypoint; it is a vibrant community whose survival hinges on the river as an asset for residents and visitors alike. This project threatens that balance. While improving navigation efficiency may benefit industry, it comes at an unacceptable cost to the well-being and prosperity of our town and its people.
The impact of this construction won't just be an eyesore. It would obstruct our cherished views, disrupt the tranquil character of our community, and deter tourists whose patronage sustains our local businesses.
We cannot let this happen. Demand the US Army Corps of Engineers halt and abandon its plan to construct the pool 10 mooring cell as proposed.
Stand with the people of Guttenberg - protect our environment, protect our economy, protect our way of life. Sign this petition. ( If you are located in Guttenberg, please head to Keumple’s or the lumber yard to sign the paper copy in person.)
