This petition calls on Merri-bek City Council to open Fawkner Library on Sundays to better serve the needs of our community.

Fawkner is a vibrant suburb with many school students, young families, and college-going youth who rely on the local library for books, study space, and learning resources. However, many residents cannot visit during weekdays due to school, homework, and work commitments.

Weekend access is currently very limited. Fawkner Library is closed on Sundays and has shorter opening hours on Saturdays, making it difficult for many community members to use the library when they are actually free.

Many nearby libraries in Merri-bek are open on Sundays, but travelling to other suburbs is not easy for everyone. A large number of residents do not drive and depend on local facilities within walking distance or limited public transport.

Opening the library on Sundays would support students, provide families with a safe learning environment, and ensure fair access to library services for the Fawkner community.

Libraries are essential community hubs that support education, inclusion, and lifelong learning. We respectfully ask Merri-bek City Council to review the current hours and open Fawkner Library on Sundays.
