Stop Speeding on Wallace Point Rd (CR-21) and surrounding area.

The Issue

Updates 2022-04-13:

Please consider sharing further. There have been increased complaints regarding speeding on Wallace Point Road as well as Base Line Road and Matchett Line. In addition, many residents are noting large amounts of discarded alcoholic beverages in the side of the roads. Recently a family pet was hit and run (unsure if the driver was aware of the hit, however still concerning, as it could have easily been an accident with a child - things happen so quickly - and we cannot leash our children - and realistically most people in the country don't leash their animals). The Ontario Provincial Police have been notified about some of these concerns using the following email: OPP.Peterborough.County@opp.ca

Please continue to report concerns, sign the petition, and I'll share again with the county and police in a few weeks. We really need some speed reduction measures such as a permanent radar sign like Millbrook has. Other ideas welcome.

Original Petition:

Wallace Point Road (County Road 21) is a very busy connecting roadway into and out of Peterborough City and County. There are several more dense residential areas, most notably Stewart Hall. The speed posted on most of Wallace Point Road is 80km/hr, with it decreasing to 60km/hr near Stewart Hall and heading closer into Peterborough. It is also a very popular cycling route, and many residents also walk the road on the soft shoulder. The Stewart Hall library is also present on the corner of Matchett and Wallace Point Road.

Unfortunately, speeding, stunt driving, and racing are issues many residents have recognized. These issues create immense danger for drivers and residents, with potential for tragedy. Those at risk include all drivers and their families, cyclists, residents pulling out of their driveways, getting mail, out for walks, children waiting for school busses, and children at play. It would only take one second of inattention from the drivers or individuals at risk for tragedy to strike.

With the addition of Riverbend Estates traffic soon to become reality, as well as additional residential areas planned for several recently sold land properties, planning needs to include road safety and function.

Please sign to encourage more active road safety enforcement by the Ontario Provincial Police, ask for additional road signage to encourage following the speed limits, and encourage thoughtful planning from the County and Township regarding future traffic needs.
