Oklahoma: Religion In Public Schools

Oklahoma: Religion In Public Schools
The Issue
Tbh if a public school want a religion to be taught in school then they should make sure there is teaching of the other religions as well and if religion is taught, it should be taught in a way that doesn’t try to convert people into any religious beliefs that require faith. So basically in my opinion I think if religion is taught in public schools, it shouldn’t be done to promote any particular faith and I do support teaching religion from an academic, non devotional perspective. It’s because in my opinion I think teaching religion from an academic non devotional perspective is important for fostering respect and understanding among students of different and diverse backgrounds. So I will support religion being in schools, if the schools decide to teach about religion to discuss the cultural, historical and societal impacts of numerous beliefs without denigrating and endorsing any religion. I think in my opinion that my approach to religion being taught in schools, aligns with the first amendment of the United States of America’s constitution, which prohibits the establishment of religion by the government while protecting individuals’ rights to free exercise of their faith. I think incorporating religious studies under my approach of religion being taught in schools, will enhance the students’ understanding of cultures, world history and literature. For example, the analyzing of religious themes under my approach of religion being taught in schools will provide valuable insights in my opinion and in my opinion I believe that the discussing of the influence of religious movements on historical events under my approach of religion being taught in schools will provide valuable insights as well. In my opinion I believe that it’s essential that the instructions are inclusive, while covering a wide range of non religious and religious viewpoints to ensure to reflect the diversity of beliefs in society. This inclusivity I believe, will help support the development of a more empathetic and informed student in my opinion. I also think this inclusivity will help prevent the marginalization of any particular group in my opinion and I have noticed from my perspective, that my educational approach is supported by organizations like National Council for the Social Studies. What I have noticed from my perspective is that, the National Council for the Social Studies advocates for the inclusion of religious studies to promote civic understanding and that I noticed from my perspective in my opinion, that the US Department of Education supports the distinction, which emphasizes that public schools may teach about religion in a academic and objective manner.
