Save the koalas from extinction by 2050
The issue
Please help stop this!! Currently the Mid North Coast beautiful protected trees and threatened species such as the nation’s Koala are under threat! How could this happen you ask? Many local government councils have strict Koala Management Plans in place to protect our Koalas. However there is the NSW State Government Local Lands Services Act 2013 that supports rural property owners to clear along their boundary fence lines.
What does this mean?
If you have a property that is zoned in RU2 like my grandparents at sapphire beach, neighbouring properties are clearing entire paddocks up to fence boundaries under allowable activities. Even if the area they are clearing is a secondary koala habitat under your local council koala management plan!!!
Are you shocked? Everyone thinks the koalas are protected, they are most certainly not!
This Local Lands Services act is being manipulated to suit Blueberry Farming, with no consideration to the threatened species the koala! Blueberry farmers are clearing entire paddocks and constructing blueberry nets right on boundary fences.
Not to mention Sugarmill creek that will now have potential spray drift and runoff that could flow into Moonee Estuary and Solitary Islands Marine Park.
The state government needs to stop clearing of protected ecological trees and conserve the environment to protect these threatened species of the koala immediately.
