On Friday 22 February, the government announced: "The requirement for bicycle riders to produce photo identification when stopped by police who suspect they have committed an offence will start in 2017. The next 12 months is about education and getting cyclists to start carrying ID.
Um ... why do we have to carry ID for the next 12 months? If a cyclist has not committed an offence why should they be asked if they are carrying ID.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO CARRY ID for the next 12 months.
And, seriously, who honestly believes the police will only ask for ID if they suspect you have committed an offence. Nonsense, they will ask for it without any hint of an offence.
