NSW Department of Education & Communities: Preserve Mowbray Public School oval

The issue

Proposed expansion of Mowbray Public School, Lane Cove, from 360 - 1,000 children by 2016 will mean considerable redevelopment and impact on local infrastructure. The oval is owned by the Department of Education (DEC), not Willoughby Council. It is widely used by members of the Mowbray school community during and after school hours. It is the home ground of Chatswood Rangers (soccer) and is used on weekends by adults and children's soccer, cricket and Oztag teams as well as several one off events after school and during the school holidays. Extensive local residential redevelopment increases the importance of retaining the land as open space.  The tennis courts are a valuable community and school resource and provide an important income stream to the school.

Dear Community, On behalf of the Department of Education and Communities (DEC), I wish to give you all the assurance that it is the intention of DEC to preserve the entire school oval. We also intend, if possible, to increase the open space at Mowbray Public School by constructing a multi storey school building to accommodate the increase in students. DEC is very aware of how important the oval and open space is to both the school and local community. Regards Suzanne Clarke-Nash Northern Sydney Asset Planner DEC
