Anthony Cole murdered my brother, Dashawn Gilbert. He has been sentenced to prison; however, there is currently a petition going around that is trying to get him out earlier because he claims that he has become a better person (https://www.change.org/p/west-virginia-parol-board-free-anthony-cole?fbclid=IwAR2IXNJfHGEzVfxKjqBVfoEpoRMzTVIGCOoeoAzwTkFgZ9PN0JrgXZViVXo The petition states, “While one cannot taking the life of another, it must be noted that Anthony Cole was young, he was suicidal and suffering from severe anxiety and depression, and he was under the influence when the supposed crime took place. However, that was ten years ago now.” Anthony may have been young; however, he was old enough to know right from wrong and there is absolutely no excuse to take away another life just because you were mentally unstable.

    I am creating this petition with the purpose of trying to spread awareness to what he has done and how he has hurt my family, in addition to my brother’s family. Dashawn Gilbert was unjustly killed in his sleep by Anthony Cole in his apartment in Huntington. Anthony did not know who my brother was and had no reason to kill him. In addition to that, he has robbed and has hurt other people with the same gun he used that killed my brother.

      Dashawn was an important person in my family. He was a son, brother, father, and best friend. He was 25 years old when he was untimely taken away from us. My big brother taught me how to draw, dance, strive to do and be better. He was an amazing person and was the family go-getter; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He was taken away from my family in cold blood and too soon. Please, I ask for you to sign this petition in order to stop this man from getting out of jail and serve his time for unjustly murdering my brother.
