Not In Plantation! Resist Mass Surveillance

The Issue

We are the residents of Plantation, Florida — and we are telling our elected officials clearly and directly:
We do not want mass surveillance cameras in our city.l!

This is not a request to slow down. This is not a request to have a conversation before you proceed. This is a demand that our city council reconsider this decision entirely — because it is a direct attack on the privacy of every person who lives, works, and raises their family in Plantation.
These multi billion dollar companies are not in the business of safety. They are in the business of data selling, and they are masquerading as safety surveillance for our local enforcement officers.
These cameras do not just read license plates. They track where we go. When we leave our homes. Where we worship. Where our children go to school. Where we seek medical care. Where we exercise our constitutional rights. Every movement. Every day. Captured, stored, and managed by a private $8.4 billion corporation that we did not elect, did not approve, and cannot remove. A corporation who has proven to sell or give away our information many many times.
We were never asked. There was no public hearing. There was no community vote. Our council made this decision without us — and that is unacceptable.
The people signing this petition are your constituents. We pay the taxes that fund this city. We vote in every election. And we are telling you directly:
This is not what we want for our families.
This is not what we want for our streets.
This is not what we want for our city.
We demand a full public hearing where residents can speak on the record. We demand this program be reconsidered and suspended immediately pending that hearing. And we demand that no further cameras be installed until the people of Plantation have had their say — because under our system of government, that say belongs to us.
We are not data points. We are not surveillance subjects. We are Plantation residents and this is our city.
Our Families. Our Streets. Our Say.
If you believe the people of Plantation have the right to say NO — sign this petition.
