Stop Over Development of Northern Beaches

The issue

If you live in Narrabeen, Warriewood and Mona Vale then this affects you!

Over the 2020/21 holidays the Northern Beaches Council placed the "Draft Northern Beaches Local Housing Strategy" on exhibition for community comment.

The Draft Strategy recommends that our area is "suited to low to medium medium density housing such as boarding houses, dual occupancies and seniors accommodation". This covers a 1km radius area around the Warriewood B-Line stop, which it calls a "local centre to provide housing diversity".

Large scale very unclear/fuzzy plans in the strategy will have a direct impact on the below Warriewood and Narrabeen areas.

  • Arnott Crescent, Warriewood
  • Sydney Road, Warriewood
  • Southern part of Narrabeen Park Parade, Warriewood
  • Most of Collins Street and possibly Darius Ave, Narrabeen
  • Berry Avenue, Narrabeen
  • Oak Street, Narrabeen

This plan also has a large and direct impact on Mona Vale and Narrabeen with the possibility of residential tower blocks being permitted.

If this plan is approved it will severely increase the number and density of houses and traffic in our area. Our area is already over crowded with housing, struggling with traffic, parking and amenities.

Boarding houses and the like encourage transient lifestyles, the beaches and surrounding areas do not need or want this type of accommodation. We don't have a fully staffed police station at Mona Vale as it is, (closest station being being Dee Why), and the current Police presence within our area is completely inadequate.

If you do not want your area zoned as medium density housing and the potential of boarding houses next door you need to let council know now! Speak up now otherwise it will be too late before developers start circling.
