Ban Helicopters to Stop Noise

The Issue

East Hampton Airport was established to serve recreational pilots on the East End.  Over the years the airport has evolved away from its original mandate and serves larger and louder aircraft.  For many years the FAA controlled East Hampton Airport and during that time the volume of commercial helicopter and seaplane traffic grew exponentially.  It is no surprise that these past few years have seen record noise complaints to the East Hampton Airport and FAA.  The North Fork was saddled with the commercial air traffic noise when the FAA mandated the North Shore Route where pilots fly over the Long Island Sound and transition over the North Fork to ultimately land at East Hampton.  This issue affects the entire East End and both forks are united in the push to end the noise pollution caused by this commercial air traffic.

East Hampton Town Board has refused to take additional funding from the FAA and as such can now begin to control its' airport once again.  North Fork and South Fork representatives have been working together and strongly arguing for a ban on commercial air traffic at East Hampton Airport.  No matter what flight path is taken, someone gets stuck with the noise, pollution, decreased quality of life, and physical stress caused by helicopters and seaplanes.  East Hampton Town Board now has the ability to significantly reduce the volume of air traffic and help return the entire East End to the bucolic and serene area we all know and love.

Please sign this petition which sends a strong message to the East Hampton Town Board as well as relevant elected officials in Congress and the US Senate - ban commercial traffic at the East End Airport and enact any necessary measures to return the entire East End to an area where everyone can have the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their homes, beaches, parks, woods, wetlands, etc.
