Nominate Memphis' Mid-South Coliseum as an official Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Landmark

Nominate Memphis' Mid-South Coliseum as an official Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Landmark
The Issue
The world famous Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis has played host to hundreds of legendary musicians in its long and illustrious history.
The Beatles, The Who, Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Blondie, James Brown, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Bruce Springsteen, Queen, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys and of course Memphis' very own Elvis Presley have all graced the stage, along with so many others, in this legendary venue.
But the Coliseum was more than just a stage to perform on - during some of the darkest and most turbulent days of recent American history it was built with the intention of bringing peace and unity through music, and so many other forms of entertainment, and was the very first racially desegregated venue in Memphis.
Over the years it allowed audiences from all backgrounds to join together and cheer on their musical heroes.
In 1998 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame created a Landmarks category to designate structures or locations that have played an important role in rock and roll history. Included so far are venues such as the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. All worthy inductees, but with it's history of playing host to the biggest acts of the last 60 years, the Mid-South Coliseum is a definite candidate too due to it's importance in rock and roll history.
The Coliseum may not have the same revered name as say Madison Square Garden or the Los Angeles Forum, but this doesn't mean that the Coliseum is any less prestigious. With the Coliseum it was never about anything other than the acts who performed there - and the good times of those they performed to.
This important piece of history, not only to the world of music but to modern culture and society, is facing an uncertain future. Although saved from demolition in recent years, there are now new plans to pull down the Coliseum.
It's legacy as a major part of music history must be preserved, along with its unique design and architecture, and so we ask that you take the time to sign this petition so that the Mid-South Coliseum can be presented to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and considered as a possible inductee into it's prestigious Landmark category.
