No to Ballyfasy Wind Farm

No to Ballyfasy Wind Farm
The Issue
The proposed Ballyfasy Wind Farm is located approximately 4km east of the M9 at Mullinavat and Glenmore in South Kilkenny. The proposal includes 10 towering wind turbines, an onsite 110kV substation and ancillary infrastructure. The proposed turbines will each have a colossal tip height of 180 metres, significantly higher than any existing turbines in the region and will loom over our community if not challenged. They are proposing to put these only 700 metres from local resident's homes!
Such a large scale development is going to have an enormous negative impact on us all, in terms of our family's health, noise pollution, shadow flicker caused by the moving blades, devaluation of our homes, broad range of environmental impacts, water contamination and so much more. There is no guarantee that new guidelines will go far enough to protect resident's land from being sterilised. By sterilised, we mean no housing will be allowed on your own land, for your own sons and daughters, because of the set back distance from a turbine.
While renewable energy is essential to tackling global climate challenges, this specific project poses several risks and challenges that cannot be overlooked by decision makers. We believe these turbines are simply TOO BIG and TOO CLOSE. The area is already overdeveloped with 3 other windfarms (Smythstown, Ballymartin and Rahora), so another is unwarranted.
There has been inadequate consultation about this wind farm proposal and the majority of the local community are unaware of it.
By signing this petition, you can make a difference and your signature will be a powerful statement in support of our rural community against the placement of wind turbines in such close and dangerous proximity to our homes.
