Netherfield Says No to EMET (East Midlands Education Trust)
The Issue
PARENTS of NETHERFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL & CARLTON-LE-WILLOWS
The Trustees of GNET are trying to take Netherfield Primary School and Carlton Le Willows into a Larger Multi-Academy Trust. I strongly urge everyone to object to these proposals and take just a couple of minutes to email your objection and sign the petition. This will negatively impact our children and our community in the following ways:
1. Each school will be required to pay £450,000 per year for membership.
2. Although EMET proposes curriculum autonomy, this is never guaranteed as Larger Multi-Academy Trust schools have a tendency to streamline and narrow a curriculum and teaching practices as it seeks Trust-wide uniformity.
3. The Wraparound Care that we, as a working family community, benefit from (free of charge) would come under threat as we are governed by the EMET and the school's finances are restricted.
4. These financial restrictions could further impact school trips, after school clubs, resources, teaching & learning and so much more.
5. We are already in a strong financial position and do not need to be absorbed into a Larger Multi-Academy Trust.
6. Carlton Le Willows is a top performing school in the county and Netherfield is a continually improving school.
7. This process has been rushed through by the Trustees, without official consultation or communication with parents. They have also given a limited timescale for governors and teachers to react or consider the proposals.
8. Governors, Teachers, Unions and Parents strongly object to these proposals.
9. The benefits of joining EMET has not been properly outlined.
10. There is NO research or evidence to suggest that Larger Multi-Academy Trusts improve standards or benefit the children holistically.
11. This is our community, these are our children's schools. We should have been notified by the Trustees well in advance of any proposals.
12. 8 Days is not an appropriate consultation period.
13. There is NOT a 'consensus within the education sector' that 'the future lies in trusts that are bigger than we are.' The GNET suggests that a 'government white paper' confirms this consensus. They are not the people teaching our children. Ask our teachers. Bigger is not always better. Community, family and shared values are. We are a small family of two schools in a small community. Our children don't dream of Larger Multi-Academy Trusts. They dream of the bright futures which our schools already promote.
14. This is the initiative of a government that is itself in turmoil. Our community has already been impacted by rising fuel costs, an increase in national insurance and benefit cuts. We cannot afford to take any risks when it comes to our community or our children's education.
Please sign the petition.
