Peter Unger started this petition to Neighbours in the Booth Street area

Dear Neighbours,

Some of the residents of Booth Street and neighbouring streets have been in discussions with the City to address truck traffic on Booth. Trucks are officially prohibited on Booth, but this rule has not been enforced recently and the number and size of trucks has increased. More concerningly, many of the trucks do not respect the 30km/h limit over the speed bump at the bottom of the hill, hitting at speed and visibly shaking all the neighbouring buildings hard enough that residents of Elm Street can feel it. This speed bump is clearly ineffective and should either have accompanying measures to achieve its objective or be removed entirely. While residents living immediately by the speed bump appear to be unanimous in their concerns regarding this, we are seeking broader community support to address this issue. The purpose of this petition is two-fold:

  1. To ask the City of Ottawa to address long-term traffic issues on Booth Street, specifically the truck traffic and the associated issues it brings.
  2. To ask for an immediate solution for the vibrations resulting from the speed bump between Elm and Primrose. This could be the immediate removal of the speed bump, the establishment of a 3-way stop at Elm, further physical speed reduction measures to ensure that vehicles actually slow down (more speed bumps or more aggressive speed bumps), increased enforcement, a combination of the above or other creative solutions.

We understand that there are several considerations at play here and we are open to discussing all solutions, but there has been a lack of action and truck traffic is only increasing. We would appreciate your support of this petition to provide tangible evidence to the City that this is a concern shared by the community. Please sign and share with anyone who may share our concern. Thank you.
