Yale University name change

The Issue

Yale University is named for a slave trader, Elihu Yale. Yes, an actual slave trader. In 1718, The Collegiate School was renamed to Yale University after a donation from Yale.  He primarily amassed his wealth by being a prominent slave trader. A university dedicated to the memory of a slave trader will not be tolerated in 2020.

Until the name is changed, a Yale degree on the wall or a job held due to a Yale degree is a microaggression against all minorities.  It celebrates the horrid institution of slavery by keeping Elihu Yale’s memory prominently displayed in our society. Systematic racism will continue until the name is changed.  No slave trader should have an American university named after them. Time to make this right.
