Stop NBCC from forcing a blended online learning style on unwilling students/apprentices. Past results have already shown a massive decrease in success rate on the block exams. Our province is currently in phase Yellow of the recovery plan, which does not constitute remote or blended learning. The guidelines of yellow and/or orange phase state, we are permitted to engage in face to face education, even in the red phase we are permitted by the guidelines to have face to face practical exams. The only visible reason NBCC is pushing blended online learning, is to reduce costs and increase their profit margin. This is putting everyone at risk, students are not going to receive the same quality of education, instructors job security is at jeopardy, as fewer instructors would be required to teach large numbers of students, building maintenance and support staff have their jobs at risk as well due to a reduced need of their services in the building. As it stands the NBCC Moncton Campus has already closed the cafeteria putting multiple long time employees out of work indefinitely. The concept of forcing hands-on trade workers, whom often struggle with class work as it is, to sit at home and learn a hands-on job, where there are many distractions that wouldn’t exist at school, such as kids, other family members, etc., is a completely backwards way of thinking. Please consider supporting our cause, to preserve the education and integrity of our tradespeople. We will not stand for these excuses, make to look like safety measures, when in reality it is all about the money, and never about the students.

Current statistics show only 40% of Canadians, living in rural areas, have access to internet capable of supporting the programs used for online learning. 

Many studies have proven online learning has only been successful with a very specific group of people. Anyone who struggles with a learning disability, ADD, ADHD, would be almost incapable of being successful with an online based, self guided learning system.
