Nationwide Child Support Laws

The Issue

To establish a unified set of child support laws nationwide, instead of 50 different sets of laws. This would help to streamline the system, help better communication between states, and eliminate confusion when dealing with interstate child support cases. It would also help keep custodial parents and non-custodial parents from losing or gaining based solely on their location. All states would use the same forms and have the same guidelines to follow. When tranferring from state to state, there would no longer be a need for the new state to issue a new order, just a change of address. Included in these laws should be guidelines for a minimum child support amount regardless of what either parents income is. They made the choice to have unprotected sex without regard for the consequence. Children cost money, the custodial parent cannot barter with the grocery store for a lower food bill based on their income, and they cannot just decide not to pay for it this month or the month after. Also, there should be drug testing required for any parent looking to lower their support obligation or get unsupervised parenting time. If you can afford the drugs, you can afford the support, and if you are on drugs, you should not be allowed to have a child in your custody without supervision.
